Sandy Run State Park is approximately 30 miles southwest of Washington, DC. It regularly sponsors interscholastic regattas during the spring, and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in June.
Directions
from Fairfax:
From Route 29, proceed south on Ox Road (Rt. 123) for approximately
10½ miles. At the sign for Fountainhead Regional Park, turn right
onto Hampton Road (Rt. 647). Go about ½ mile and turn left on Van
Thompson Road. After about ¼ mile Van Thompson bears sharply to
the left (at a barn) and continues down a hill to the entrance to
Sandy Run Park.
Directions
from I95:
Take exit 163 (Lorton Road, Route 642) west. After about 1.6 miles
(at the top of a hill), bear right on Furnace Road and follow it
until it meets Route 123 (Ox Road). Turn right on Ox Road and travel
1.2 miles to Hampton Road where you will turn left. Go about 1/2
mile on Hampton road and turn left on Van Thompson Road (you will
see power lines overhead, just in front of you). After about 1/4
mile, Van Thompson bears sharply to the left at a well weathered
barn and continues down a hill to the entrance to Sandy Run Park.
Once there, parking officials will direct you to a parking spot.
There is a parking fee
of $5 on Regatta days. You will be directed to
available parking.

Use caution as other drivers DO NOT! When leaving the Occoquan,
the left turn from Ox to Furnace is tricky. Please drive very slowly
as you near the boathouse as the homeowners have real concerns during
rowing season that the peace of the area will be disturbed.
